Alsik
As the largest hotel in the German- Danish border region, and now Sønderborg’s latest prominent landmark, the Alsik has been constructed in the former industrial port area, on the banks of the Alssund strait and the Flensburg Fjord.
During the course of Sønderborg’s redevelopment programme, the award winning, Canadian architect, Frank O. Gehry created a masterplan in 2008 for the rebuilding of the harbour complex, an integral part of which was to be an unique hotel: the Alsik. The renowned Copenhagen firm, Henning Larsen Architects, designed the 70 metres high building. This includes an observation deck at 64 metres above sea level. With its 24,800 square metres and 19 floors, new standards in the region were established.
Rooms
190 rooms, of which 21 are Junior Suites and Suites, all impress by the highest of Nordic comfort and Scandianvian interior design, in harmony with modern functionality. The cosy, “hygge” atmosphere, accentuated with colourful, eyecatching accents, is achieved through natural materials and elegant forms.
Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure that the rooms are bathed in natural daylight and provide sensational views. More than 90 percent of the rooms have sea view.
Facilities
The Alsik offers a choice of three different restaurants, each one bearing the hallmarks of the prominent Danish celebrity chef Jesper Koch: regional, original and typically Nordic.
The Fine Dining Restaurant "Syttende", on the 17th floor, is an impressive setting. The highest restaurant in town offers the most exquisite gastronomy, together with fantastic views. Freia - klassisk spisestue and the Alsik- Verdenskøkken are on the ground floor and weather permitting, spacious outdoor terraces invite guests to linger, indulge and enjoy.
Capacity
Whether it is to be a conference, creative workshop, fairy tale wedding or glittering ball, the Alsik caters for any eventuality with its 1,500 square metres event floor area, incorporating nine meeting and banquet rooms, as well as the exclusive boardroom. All are equipped with the latest IT and entertainment technology.
